lynn and emmalene • happy anniversary | hastings michigan event photographer

Last Saturday afternoon, I had the wonderful honor of photographing a 50th wedding anniversary party here in Hastings at the Walldorff. I find it hard sometimes to put into words how I feel about the people I photograph, but I will just say that it was such a blessing to be a part of Lynn and Emmalene’s special day. The party was the first time I met any of them and they were a wonderful group. It was great getting to know a little about the couple through all the kind (and funny!) things their friends and family had to say about them. Narrowing the pictures down for this blog post was difficult. There were so many great shots of the guests laughing and having a good time, but those will have to wait until the slideshow.

Members of the original bridal party as well as family sat at the head table with the couple.

There was a lot of this throughout the party …

and lots of this …

and a little of this, too.

There was music. So beautiful. Such talented grandchildren they have. 🙂

And their guests took turns “roasting” them. The stories they shared were so hilarious! What wonderful friends and family they have and such fun memories!

There was even a little bit of dancing!

Happy Anniversary, Lynn and Emmalene! It was such a pleasure to meet you and photograph your party.

happy monday

While going through some pictures from Memorial Day weekend at my hubby’s parents house, I came across this one of my mom-in-law’s friend’s dog and it made me laugh.

Welcome to a new week! This is the last week of school for my kiddos, so summer is upon us. Looking forward to lots of family outings. Also coming up at A Picture’s Worth … a special anniversary party, weddings and something new I’ve been working on. Excited to share that soon.

Also, you may or may not have noticed, next to my photo above, I’ve added a feed to my twitter account under “What am I doing right now?”. I admit, I’m addicted to twitter like everyone else seems to be right now. I love seeing little snippets of what’s going on with friends on a daily basis. Follow me on twitter HERE.

Have a blessed day!

happy first birthday | baby + children birthday party photographer

Spent last Saturday in Ohio for the first birthday of my cousin’s twins, Graham + Cooper. It was such a fun time. They are the cutest little guys. It was so funny to watch them each react in their own distinct way to their first piece of birthday cake. Graham dug right in while Cooper took about five minutes before he even knew what to do with it. 🙂 Here are a few pictures from the day:

exploring

I grew up in the country. In the middle of the Barry State Game Area to be exact. Most of the time, I loved living there. Except for the thick mosquitoes in summer and how creepy a thunderstorm made the surrounding woods seem. When we were at my parents house for Mother’s Day, I decided to go for a walk and take pictures of some of the places my brothers and I used to play as kids. Zach tagged along and I told him how we used to drive our go-cart back the path and have adventures back in the woods. It was fun to reminisce.

The people who owned the home before my parents left a lot of trash in the woods – old chairs and junk. I was surprised to see some of it still back there. And these cement steps have lived among the trees between my parents’ and the neighbors’ property for many years. I think they used to be attached to our house before my parents did some renovating. Not sure. We used to play on them all the time with the neighbor girls. Snakes liked to live under and around them, too. Good times.

This was our climbing tree. It’s got a lot of broken and rotting branches now, but way back in the day it was big and strong and we climbed as high as we could get.

These rocks lie right in the middle of this great big open grassy area in the back yard. They’ve always been there. Not sure why. I’m sure they’re fun for my dad when he mows the lawn. And I don’t know why, but I’m really drawn to power lines. Long rows of them fascinate me. I think it’s the idea that at one time, there were large areas of this country that had no power and now these wires and poles run everywhere bringing electricity to everyone. It’s the little things that intrigue me, I guess. 🙂 Here are the ones behind the house that run through the trees.

A fun little photo exploration. I’d love to see some of your favorite childhood places, too. Get out there and capture those locations that bring back special memories for you. Feel free to share by leaving a link in the comments or by email.

the laurie family

I had such a great time with the Laurie’s last week. I took Eric and Ida’s engagement pictures last year in January, but this was the first time I met the rest of the family and they were a joy! We met here in Hastings at Tyden Park and I could tell immediately that they were a fun group that laugh together a lot. My cheeks hurt from laughing and smiling so much.

The sky threatened rain showers all evening, but it held off. And all the rain we had the week before our shoot really helped the trees in the park to bloom. They looked so pretty and we took advantage of them for the pictures.

Here are just a few of this wonderful family:

Happy Mothers Day!

Woke up to a special Mother’s Day gift from Zach.

A Lego camera! How clever is he? 🙂

a happy spring day

It is a beautiful day, the sun is shining, the birds are chirping and the forecast for this weekend is more of the same with increasingly warmer temperatures. This is VERY good news. So we’re going to do more of what we did last weekend. Put our hair in pigtails (well … us girls anyway), spend all day outside and get some much needed Vitamin D. This picture is from our visit to Jake’s mom’s last weekend. Chloe LOVES the cats and they also have two pugs. More pics from our day over on our family blog.

Happy weekend everyone! Enjoy yourselves!

my girl on Easter

Playing with some pictures of my kids from Easter and I liked this one of Chloe. 🙂 Posted a bunch from our Easter weekend over on my family blog.

happy spring break

The kiddos are off for Spring Break this week. No big plans around here, just hanging out and enjoying a week with nothing to do. It’s kind of nice to wear pj’s all day and not have to go anywhere. Hope those of you who are on Spring Break are making the most of it. Last year at this time, we were in Florida. Our first family trip to Disney. Considering the 30 degree days around here, we are wishing we were back there again. What are you doing for Spring Break?

chalk art with my family

It’s been a while since I shared personal pictures here, so I thought I’d post a little collage from this weekend. My husband and kids were outside making art on the sidewalk and I captured their fun.
