this cold and snowy week

Took this out the window last week when it was snowing hard. Played around with focusing on the snow as it fell. Looking at this too long makes me a little dizzy actually.

Here I go again. Another winter and once again it’s time to complain about how much I hate it. We’ve actually been blessed with some beautiful sunshine the past couple days, but it’s making the temps bitterly cold. Mom and I are still out there walking in it, though. Determined to keep it up. The inches are coming off little by little as the weeks pass. Lost another inch on both my hips and waist. Feels good when the jeans become loose fitting. Maybe by summer I’ll actually be down to the size I want to be.

LOVING that I joined this Bible in 90 Days group. Getting into Leviticus right now. So many rules/laws about clean/unclean things and sacrifices. God was very specific about everything and He wasn’t joking around. If you didn’t follow His rules, you were dead. Literally. Two of Aaron’s (Moses’s brother) sons found that out the hard way.

One more family Christmas next weekend. We had to postpone it until late January because of work schedules, but it’s kind of nice to have the holidays drawn out a bit. :)

The movie Jake helped with last year and had a couple small roles in, “Homeless for the Holidays”, will be playing in Grand Rapids at the Woodland Mall Celebration Cinema starting January 29th. If you’re in the area, check it out.

Enjoyed watching Chuck this week. That show is so much fun. Glad it’s back for another season.

Not loving this whole craziness over The Tonight Show. It’s sucks what they’ve done to Conan O’Brien. I’d rather watch him than Jay any day. Not that I actually watch late night TV anymore anyway. But whatever Conan does, he’s got a huge fan base, so he’ll be just fine!

If you’re local, did you hear the news the other night about some idiots stealing the baby Jesus from the nativity downtown? That nativity has been in the courthouse lawn every year for as long as I can remember. It sucks that someone did this. Hope they find it or the person gets a conscience and returns it.

Posted this sweet little slideshow over on my photo blog of Janna + Dan’s sweet baby Jackson. She requested the song “You Are My Sunshine” and, while searching for it, I came across this wonderful artist, Elizabeth Mitchell, who has a way of singing children’s songs so even parents can enjoy them. I love her music. Here’s the slideshow, click the image to begin show.

Have a wonderful Wednesday!

winter has arrived

Looking at these pictures, which were taken only three weeks ago, makes me happy for that last little bit of indian summer that we had. October was chilly and then we had a nice little warmup in November. But last night it snowed. A lot. We didn’t get a ton of the white stuff here, but north of us got around 10 inches. More in some places. I drove home in whiteout conditions this morning after dropping the kids off at school. Anyone who has read this blog for a long time knows how much I dislike winter. It’s pretty, that first snowfall, making everything lovely and white and sparkly. And I’m fine with it staying around for a nice white Christmas. But then it can go away.

Doing advent boxes with the kids again this year. Our first four days were:
Dec 1st – pop popcorn and watch a Christmas movie – we watched Elf!
Dec 2nd – make it snow indoors. we cut out a bunch of paper snowflakes and made paper chains to hang up.
Dec 3nd – write a letter to Santa.
Dec 4th – I gave them each a piece of candy.

I like to alternate activities and little candies or small gifts.

Jake’s first company Christmas party is next week. I’m very excited. It’s at Frederik Meijer Gardens and it will be so pretty. They always have a big display of Christmas trees with decorations from all different countries and tons of lights. We might even get to go on a carriage ride while we’re there. My mom took me shopping last week and helped me pick out a dress. Got a cute one at Kohl’s in the Vera Wang collection. I had my mind set on a black dress, but I saw this one and just decided to pick it up and try it. None of the dresses I tried on fit me right until I tried two Vera ones on. Something about the way they’re cut just hangs right on me. So I went with a cute little red/black one and found a red sweater to wear over it to keep me warm. Pretty sure I’m going to need that with this cold weather that looks like it’s here to stay. Also got my first high heels in years. It’s probably been since I was a bridesmaid in my friend Julie’s wedding in ’98 that I wore heels, so wish me luck!

My wonderful sis-in-law, Heather, and I had a conversation a couple weeks ago about the show Glee. She asked if I’d seen it and I had heard of it, but I really had no idea what it was about. She gifted me the first six episodes on iTunes and, after seeing the first episode, I was immediately hooked. I love it. My mom told me she used to be in the Glee club when she was in high school but they never did anything like the kids on Glee. haha! I watched all the other episodes online this week and I’m all caught up for the finale next week. I can’t seem to get the songs out of my head. My three favorite musical moments so far (for those who’ve seen them and know what I’m talking about) are “Don’t Stop Believing” from the first episode where Will is about to quit as their teacher, “Keep Holding On” from the episode where everyone learns about Quinn’s pregnancy, and “Imagine” where the Glee kids sing with the school for the deaf. I pretty much love it all, but there are certain scenes that really moved me and those are a few. And there is something about the guy who plays their teacher. He’s got such a fun spirit and when he cries, I cry. Love it! Thanks again, Heather! ;)

Got space cleared to put up our Christmas tree this weekend, so hopefully we’ll get that done. The kids will be happy once we get it up so they can help decorate it. Looking forward to that. :)

mama’s day

Had a lovely Mothers Day weekend. I meant to post earlier, but this week got away from me.

On Friday, I got to be Zach’s special person at school. My mom went with Chloe to her school. It was a fun time. I didn’t take my camera along to this one because I went last year, too, and I knew there wouldn’t be anything to take pictures of. Or so I thought. Last year, we did some fun worksheets, played games and got a tour of the school by our student. Same thing this year, only they started out doing several fun skits and Zach was the narrator for one. Wish I had my camera for that. Ah well … I enjoyed it in real life rather than looking through a lens.

Saturday, we went over to Jake’s mom’s and made a delicious meal on the grill. Jake and I made Mom stay out of the kitchen (well, we tried to keep her out … haha!) and we made steak, veggies and shrimp on the grill. It was very tasty. We watched Bride Wars during dinner and then the latest episode of Harper’s Island, which I had never even heard of. It was a fun night.

Sunday, we went to my parents house and had a yummy lunch and then the kids blew bubbles and played badminton with Grandma. They had a good time and they are really improving. Both of them can actually hit the birdie when it comes their way. I was impressed.

Someone was pouting because nobody would serve to her.

After the game, Zach and I went for a little walk through the woods. I put some pictures from our walk over on my photo blog. Check ‘em out!

This week was Zach’s Spring Concert at school. It was so cute! I took pictures there, too, so I’ll try to post a few of those next week.

Tomorrow, we’re headed to a 1st birthday party for my cousin Traci’s twins, Graham and Cooper. They are the cutest little guys ever! You know I’ll have my camera with me for that. :)

Have a wonderful weekend!
