two weeks past

my birthday cake. mom put my name and age on it. the kids decorated the corners w/the heart, xoxo, smiley face and mom. love it.

the past 2 weeks:
– Lots of swimming in our Big Blue pool
– A little stressed out by the kids
– Jake suggested we get a couple days to ourselves. MomO agreed to take the kids for a couple overnights and he took two days off work.
– My 38th birthday. Had a pizza party here w/my parents and brothers.
– Dropped the kids off after the party and went to a movie. Super 8. Fun summer movie.
– Spent a day in Canton. Lunch at Panera. Shopping at IKEA. Got the bookshelf I’ve been wanting for years. Happy Birthday to me!
– Spent a day in GR. Browsed Barnes & Noble. We each picked out a book and we got a book for each of the kids, too. I got a book about Jane Austen that has a collection of the letters she wrote during her life. Fascinating.
– Lunch at Olive Garden.
– Made BBQ pulled pork in the crockpot for the first time. Turned out GREAT. So delicious.
– Watched the movie “Aquamarine” with Chloe about fifteen times. She pretends to be a mermaid in the pool now. :)
– So impressed that the kids are using their evening quiet time (the hour before bedtime) to read their new books. Even Zach, who doesn’t normally choose reading first if he has other more entertaining options (games, legos, etc.).
– Used my straightening iron on Chloe’s hair. She looked so pretty with her hair all smoothed out. It’s normally a crazy wavy flyaway mess.

– Went to Dad O’s work retirement dinner at Seasonal Grille here in town. First time eating there. Very nice place with yummy food.
– Jake ran out of gas on his way to work on Wednesday. oops!
– Talked to my dear friend Jen and made the final plans for our annual camping trip next weekend. Can’t wait!
– Some big storms this week with tons of rain. Our Big Blue pool is so full right now, must drain some water today so we can swim this weekend.
– Chloe slept in our bed on Wed. night (because of the storms).
– Chloe slept in her own bed last night. She said she prayed that God would “keep it down” ’cause she was trying to sleep. So proud she made it through the whole night.
– Jake accidentally left his phone at home yesterday. oops again! Gave us an excuse to deliver it and have lunch with him.
– Did some more research on my Grandpa’s time in WWII – 334th Infantry 84th Division G Company. From October 10, 1944 to Dec 31, 1944, he was involved in quite a bit of combat. I was lucky enough to find a breakdown of what the 334th did during that time. Lots more reading and investigating to do. I’ve only scratched the surface. Very thankful for the pictures, letters and info we have so far.
– Had a challenging day with the kids yesterday. Just one of those days, I guess.
– Enjoyed a large mocha frappe after a long frustrating day with the kids.

Can’t believe July is nearly over. Only 5 more weeks until school starts. Trying not to think about it. Need to pack some good fun into August!

a heat wave and happy 40th

The temps here this week are HOT HOT HOT! Forecast calls for highs in the 90’s every day for at least the next week. I foresee lots of time in the pool.

We kicked off the heat wave with a little get together on Sunday afternoon with Mom O, Heather and Scarlett. We had yummy food on the grill, swam in the pool, and had popsicles for dessert. :)

Scarlett was so adorable in her cute little hat. She kept walking along the sidewalk and crouching down to “dribble” the ball. It was so cute.

And that little swimsuit was SO cute. She had fun chilling in her little floaty tube in the pool.

I love her little look in this one. I think she was looking at Jake. hehe.

Chloe and Zach had fun squirting Scarlett with her little pool toys.

After Scarlett got out, we made big waves in the pool. Mom O was jumping around in the water saying, “See what my new back can do!” She had such a hard summer last year, barely able to move at times with extreme back pain from wiping out on some ice that winter, until she had her surgery. Praise God that she got all fixed up and can enjoy life again.

It was such a nice day. Love having family over to visit.

On a side note, my own back pain seems to be subsiding finally. The past few days it has been much better. Very thankful that I can sit again without pain and do a little blogging and playing with all the pictures I’ve been taking this summer.

Today also marks my parents 40th wedding anniversary.

A few photos I scanned from some old negatives that were my Grandma’s
Happy Anniversary, Mom and Dad!

a digital layout share

A few pictures from the first day of summer break.
Did a quick little layout last night.
Been a while since I made a page.
Feeling inspired to do more.

If only my back didn’t hurt so bad that I can’t sit at my computer for more than fifteen minutes at a time. :(

a list on monday

• Going through pictures from Scarlett’s bday party and found this one of Chloe. Played with a bunch of textures using Photoshop and got a few fun versions. I think I like the one on the lower right the best.

• Went to an anniversary party on Saturday for Laurel & Steve, my neighbors growing up. It was nice to see them and their daughters, April and Holly. We had a good time reminiscing about the good ol’ days.

• Did something to my back this weekend. Not sure what, but I am in a lot of pain. My lower back is extremely stiff and sore. Hurts to sit for long periods of time and when I do sit and then try to get up … it makes me wants to cry. Hope it gets better quickly.

• Watched “Facing the Giants” yesterday. A little family time! That movie is so wonderful.

• Lots of storms this morning, so we’re having a quiet day indoors watching TV, knitting, playing on the computer. Chloe and I sat on our front porch for a while watching the storms. She read some books and I knitted her a headband. It was nice.

• Hoping for some nice sunshine this week so we can spend some time in our beloved “Big Blue” pool.

Happy Monday everyone!

summer fun

It’s been a fun couple weeks. The summer is starting to pick up speed now with lots of things going on here and there.

Scarlett’s 1st birthday • We went over to Canton a couple weekends ago to celebrate sweet Scarlett’s birthday. It was a special day. I still can’t believe it’s been a year since MomO and I hung out with Heather and Jeff at the hospital and I photographed all the moments of Scarlett’s birth. She’s grown so much in the past year.

Tim’s 35th • We had a yummy dinner at the farm to celebrate my brother Tim’s birthday. Lots of laughter and silliness, cake and ice cream, and handmade cards.

Movie day • (no pictures of this) Zach went with Jake and my brothers to see the new Transformers movie, while Chloe, Mom and I went to see Mr Popper’s Penguins. It was such a cute movie. We all really liked it. And the boys had a great time together at their movie, too.

Girls Days • Mom and I met Aunt Pat and Tonya in Auburn Hills on the 4th of July for a couple days of shopping at Great Lakes Crossing. We spent our 4th walking around the mall, shopping, eating, catching up, chatting over some Tim Horton’s (my first time having Tim Horton’s mocha iced capp. SO yummy!), and watching fireworks in the distance from our hotel room with all the lights turned off. The second day, we headed south to Canton and spent the afternoon at Ikea. It was my first Ikea experience and that place is awesome! It was a very fun time together, as always.

I was actually a little jealous of Jake and the kids. While I was gone, they spent a couple days at Mom+DadO’s with lots of good food and Slip ‘n Slide fun. haha!

Maranda’s Park Party • Took the kids to the fairgrounds (Barry Expo Center) for the big park party. It was great. Very hot out and very long lines since thousands of people showed up. Chloe had a lot of fun petting the animals, riding one of the rides, going down the big bouncy slide. We missed most of the stuff going on at the big stage that was set up because we were waiting in lines, but it was still a good time. It’s really great that they put these parties on and everything is completely free. It’s a wonderful way to give area kids some summer fun!

What next? The Barry County Fair. Maybe go to the zoo sometime soon. Maybe a Whitecaps game. Lots of nice weather coming up. Lots of fun options. What to do? What to do?
