Brides Michigan Magazine

Something exciting arrived in my mailbox a couple weeks ago. The latest issue of Brides Michigan Magazine with one of my favorite 2008 weddings featured – Lesley and Anthony. Their wedding was just beautiful and we had a wonderful time with them. They are the sweetest couple and their families are the nicest people you’ll ever meet. I was so flattered when Brides Magazine contacted me about featuring their wedding and I’m excited to finally see it in print. I scanned the cover, the contents page with one of their first dance pictures, and the feature page to share with you. And congrats to Lesley and Anthony for having their big day published. :)

happy new year everyone!

I have been extremely blessed to work with wonderful couples and families in 2008. I’ve shared with them as they joined their lives, celebrated an engagement, welcomed a baby (or babies in the case of my cousin who had twins), adopted a child, prepared for high school graduation. It’s the stories that mean so much to me and I feel so honored that so many of you have invited me to capture these moments for you.

This might take a bit to load, but I’ve put together a little slideshow of highlights from 2008.

I’m looking forward to what 2009 holds. Hopefully I’ll see many of you again and make many new friends in the new year.

Happy New Year!
Kris

wedding announcement cards

Something I’ve been doing for a couple years now is making these cute little announcement cards for all of the weddings I shoot. They have a link inviting the couple’s family and friends to view their pictures online. This link leads them to a little custom webpage that I put together for all my couples. I design the cards in Photoshop using one of their engagement pictures (or a picture they email me if they don’t do an engagement session with me) and I customize the color to match their wedding colors. Everyone loves these and they blend right in with the other wedding decor. :) Thought I would share some pictures for all my potential brides out there.

Here are a couple of the guests at one of my ’07 weddings checking out the cards. :)

I feel like I’ve known Lindsay and Jim for a long time when really I’ve only spent time with them twice. A few hours one day in Chicago this summer for their engagement session and on Saturday for their lovely wedding at the Belvedere Inn in Saugatuck. This was a hard post to put together. There were so many special, wonderful moments. I was so happy to be able to bring my husband Jake along for this wedding, too. He was with me when I met Lindsay and Jim this summer and we all got along really well so I invited him along as my assistant for the day. I knew he’d enjoy being there since it was a couple he knew. Jake captured some great moments of the guys getting ready, which is something I’m not always able to do since I’m with the girls most of the time before the ceremony. I chose quite a few pictures to share, so here goes:

The Belvedere

Gotta love those comfy shoes!

Lindsay is such a beauty. Inside and out. ;)

The flowers were so bright and beautiful. Perfect for a fall wedding.

Lindsay’s dad seeing her for the first time. “You look resplendent,” he said (with his English accent) :) and we all agreed that it was the perfect word to describe her. She was glowing.

A sweet moment between mom and dad.

Beautiful girls. The eggplant color of the girls’ dresses was beautiful. Since the bridesmaids live all over, Lindsay told them what designer brand and what color and each girl chose her own style. I love that.

Jake caught these great shots of Jim getting ready!

The ceremony was held outside despite the sky threatening us with rain all day long. It got a little dark a couple times, but the rain stayed away and we enjoyed their vows surrounded by the beauty of autumn.

Details, details, details! The table cards were great. Each one was a picture of something special to the couple. One was Caribou Coffee since that’s where Lindsay and Jim met. Another was the British flag since several of Lindsay’s relatives from England made the journey over for the wedding. Their table was marked with a picture of their cat, Major. So fun! The place cards had a Welsh Love Spoon fastened to them with a ribbon and a note on the back of the card explaining the significance of the spoon. We thought that was a special detail, too. Everything was just beautiful.

The speeches at this wedding were so touching. There wasn’t a dry eye, including mine. Lindsay’s dad spoke of her sister Piper, who has battled the evil cancer not once in her young twenties but twice. Everyone raised their glasses to her and to health. Tears everywhere. And Piper gave such a nice maid of honor speech about how Jim had been a source of strength for their family during a very dark time in their lives. It was very special to be a part of that and I was overwhelmed by emotion for them and all they’ve been through. To share in moments like this is the reason I do what I do.

The first dance as husband and wife

lindsay and her dad. jim and his mom.

Lindsay’s grandfather was quite the ladies man. He tossed his cane aside and danced with all the girls. It was very sweet.

All the ladies in Jim’s family surrounded him on the dance floor. :)

The lovely Belvedere at night.

Lindsay and Jim, I’m so very happy for you two! It’s been so nice getting to know you and spending the day surrounded by your family and friends was absolutely wonderful! Have fun with Mickey Mouse! :)

dina + andreas • 10.18.08 | naples florida wedding photographer

Naples, Florida – This past weekend, I flew down to Florida for Dina and Andreas’ wedding at the Club at Olde Cypress in Naples. It was a beautiful night for their intimate wedding with about seventy or so of their closest friends and family there to celebrate with them. The Clubhouse was amazing. It’s only about eight years old, but it had the feel of a really old building with lots of huge heavy doors and dark wood. Very cool location. One of the most special things for me about this wedding was that they actually changed their wedding date so that I could be their photographer. I was already booked for their original date and I was so flattered that they switched it. It is the biggest compliment I’ve ever received. And it was so wonderful to share the day with them. They have such great family and friends and everyone had such a wonderful time!

Dina walked down the aisle to one of the themes from Star Wars. She’s a huge fan. It was awesome!

Their sand castle cake was SO fantastic! And it was delicious, too.

Snuck outside at sunset for a few shots. Florida has such beautiful sunsets.

First dance as husband and wife!

Slideshow coming soon!

laura + steve • 10.11.08 | the inn at st john’s wedding photographer

Saturday was an absolutely gorgeous day for a wedding! Laura and Steve were the kindest, sweetest, most loving couple. We had such a wonderful time with them and I’ve been working on this sneak peek for the last couple days trying to narrow the wedding down into a handful of pictures. It was hard, so you’ll just have to make sure to view the slideshow when I get that ready because there will be many more moments to share. Here are the few I chose to show today:

The coolest thing about Laura’s wedding gown is that is was made from her mother’s dress. It was beautiful and so perfect for Laura.

Laura and Steve were married at the beautiful Inn at St John’s in Plymouth. The chapel there is amazing with it’s reflective tile floors, beautiful lighting and stained glass windows.

I told the girls “talk amongst yourselves” right after we did a “look at the camera” shot. This is what I got. These girls were perfect all day long! Loved them!

Somebody’s ready to finish pictures and party! ;)

Their reception was also held there at the Inn in one of their beautiful banquet halls.

They decided to cut their cute cake as soon as they entered the reception. Then funny and heartfelt speeches were given by Laura’s dad, the maid of honor and the best man followed by a prayer for the meal.

The details were just beautiful. The nature theme is one of my favorites. Loved the candles hanging from the branches. Tables were identified by years. Each card listed events that took place during that year and on the opposite side was a picture from either Laura or Steve’s family and something that happened that year. Some of the cards had wedding pictures of their parents and grandparents along with the date they were married. Another very cool thing they did was to appoint a friend to walk around from table to table with a guest book for everyone to sign. Each page had a space for a picture so she would take each person/couple’s picture to be printed and put in the book later next to what they wrote. Loved that. And the sunglasses were a huge hit! People were dancing around in them all night.

First dance as husband and wife!

I love this moment during Laura’s dance with her dad.

Steve hugging his mom after their dance.

The rest of the night, there was a lot of this and this …

… and a little of this and this, too.

Laura and Steve, I cannot begin to tell you how much I loved your wedding. You two are so special and I can’t believe I’m lucky enough to work with people like you, who truly care and show such kindness. Hope you’re having a fabulous honeymoon in the Greek Isles. I’m completely jealous! :)
