looking back and moving forward

As I look at all the beautiful couples below and think back over the past six years, I have so many wonderful memories. I have been so overwhelmingly blessed to be part of all of their weddings – some family, some friends, some strangers who I now call friends. Taking the leap to start my photography business was so scary, but it was one of the best things I ever did. I set out to do something and I did it. I wanted to shoot weddings and I did. Lots of them. All along, I have said that I truly believe God brought each and every couple my way and I’m so thankful for that, because I have worked with some of the most special, kind, thoughtful, beautiful people in this world.

Over the past couple of years, though, the business has slowed way down for me and I have spent a lot of time searching and praying and asking God why. This year, I have put a lot of my focus on my family and spending time with my kids, who really took a backseat more often than I’d like to admit because of all the time devoted to editing photos. I have felt for a while now that this little business of mine may have run its course. This post has been such a long time coming, so here it is … I am officially stepping back from A Picture’s Worth photography. I’m embracing my kids, my husband and our life as it is right now and turning my attention to other things. There will always be a love of photographing weddings and I’m leaving that little place in my heart open to the possibility of doing this again someday, but I truly believe this is the right decision for me at this time.

THANK YOU so much to all of my wedding couples. Thank you for choosing me to capture your most important day. And to the dozens of families whose pictures I took along the way, too. It’s been such fun getting to know all of you. THANK YOU all from the bottom of my heart.

I will be keeping this blog up indefinitely since so many couples’/families’ pictures are here, so feel free to browse through all the posts. I may check in every once in a while, so keep me on your RSS feeds and Google Readers just in case.

show me your walls

I’ve been meaning to do a “walls” post for a while now. my sis-in-law Heather just sent me a shot of the pictures above their fireplace, including their favorite shot from the wedding in a gallery wrap canvas that Jeff surprised Heather with for Christmas and one from their engagement session at Tunnel Park in Holland.

Shannon + Brett’s wedding a year ago in April was such a fun day! They were a great couple and we had such an awesome time at the Van Andel Museum reception. Here are a few pictures from the wedding displayed on these cute shelves in their home.

In June, Lesley and Anthony had their wedding ceremony at Lesley’s parents home and while there taking pictures of the girls getting ready, I had to snap this picture of the living room wall. Lesley’s mom had all these prints from the family session I did for them last fall along with a couple from Lesley and Anthony’s engagement displayed so nicely. I’m totally inspired to someday do a photo display like this in my home.

kelley + chris • show me your walls … err, scrapbooks

I was SO blessed last summer to travel to Texas for the wedding of my dear “blog friend” Kelley. We are both very into scrapbooking and that’s how we found each others blogs a few years ago. Kelley just finished up her wedding scrapbook and I thought I’d share a few of the page layouts that she put together and posted on Flickr.

It was so fun seeing my pictures organized this way! Kelley had so many pages, she had to break it up into two books. But now she has a beautiful set of books to display and share and help them remember their special day.

Kelley really wanted the high resolution disk of wedding images with her wedding package for this purpose. She knew she would be making a lot of prints and could do it herself with the disk. Plus, she now has the disk to store in a safe place so she always has a permanent copy of her pictures.

The high res image DVD we offer includes a signed release giving you permission to make prints at the photo lab of your choice. I also encourage couples who get the disk to burn their own backup copies and store them in safe places just in case.

If you are a past client of mine, feel free to email me some snapshots of your wedding, family, baby or other pictures displayed in frames, on shelves, or in a scrapbook. I love sharing these here and inspiring others to get their pictures displayed so they can enjoy them!

rachael + nick • show me your walls

show me your walls is a fun feature that I started here last year for my clients to share the way they’ve displayed my work in their homes.

Rachael sent me a few snapshots of their wedding pictures framed around their home. I loved seeing these!
