christmas village wedding

Even at my parents house on Christmas day, there was a wedding for me to photograph. ;) This was the scene in my Mom’s Christmas village she has set up in her bay window. Although, this is the first “giant” wedding I’ve photographed. The bride and groom would have to bend down and crawl to get inside those tiny church doors.

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season. Happy to be starting 2010 and can’t wait to see what it holds!

merry christmas

Merry Christmas!

2009 for me can be summed up in one word. Change!

Some of you already know my husband lost his job a few years ago and we have been without steady income since then. I know many of you can relate to this as you find yourselves in a similar situation this year. It’s truly been a time of trusting God and holding onto what is most dear – each other, our children, our family.

It’s been a long road. We have prayed for things to turn around and I’m happy to share that God has finally answered our prayers. Jake was recently hired in to a wonderful company in the publishing industry. Just the kind of job he always dreamed of having after working in a factory for far too many years. We are beyond happy and so thankful to God for getting us through.

Though the past few years have been difficult personally, I have been so blessed by all of you who I have had the privilege to work with. All of your weddings, engagements, families, and babies have given me so much joy in a time when it seemed there was little to be happy about. I have said it before and I’ll say it again … you are all AMAZING. I have worked with the BEST people in this little business of mine. I’ve had such fun and been a part of so many sweet moments that I’ll remember for the rest of my life. Thank you all for allowing me to step into your lives if only for a day and soak up all of your happiness and joy! You’ve truly kept me going through it all.

Now, as we take time to celebrate the birth of Jesus, we’re giving thanks and looking forward to the year ahead and what God has in store for us!

Merry Christmas and may 2010 be full of blessings!
Lots of Love,
Kris

happy thanksgiving

Taking a few days off for the holiday. I’m so very thankful for all of the couples and families who have chosen me over the years to be a little part of their lives and their happy moments. I pray that God will pour HUGE blessings on all of you!

Have a Happy Thanksgiving!

My friend and former APW bride, Lindsay, featured me as “website of the week” over on her blog today. Thanks, Lindsay! You’re the sweetest. :)

14 things I love about my husband on our 14th anniversary:
- he is my best friend
- he is a wonderful father
- he’s got a creative and imaginative mind
- he listens
- he puts up with me and my selfish ways
- he works hard to take care of us
- he cooks delicious meals on the grill
- he helps with dishes and laundry and grocery runs
- he loves Olive Garden as much as I do
- he lets me drive
- he is understanding and supportive of my photography business
- he is a dreamer just like me
- he holds me when I need to be held
- he loves Jesus as much as I do

Happy Anniversary, babe! I love you! <3

the use of color

Jake and I went to see 500 Days of Summer this weekend and absolutely LOVED it. The story, the acting, the music, everything!

I always enjoy watching behind-the-scenes interviews and clips and I love what the director, Marc Webb, said about his use of the color blue:

If you get the chance, we highly recommend you see this movie! :)

Up next: Jeanine + Burgess’s wedding! Can’t wait!

happy monday

While going through some pictures from Memorial Day weekend at my hubby’s parents house, I came across this one of my mom-in-law’s friend’s dog and it made me laugh.

Welcome to a new week! This is the last week of school for my kiddos, so summer is upon us. Looking forward to lots of family outings. Also coming up at A Picture’s Worth … a special anniversary party, weddings and something new I’ve been working on. Excited to share that soon.

Also, you may or may not have noticed, next to my photo above, I’ve added a feed to my twitter account under “What am I doing right now?”. I admit, I’m addicted to twitter like everyone else seems to be right now. I love seeing little snippets of what’s going on with friends on a daily basis. Follow me on twitter HERE.

Have a blessed day!

happy first birthday | baby + children birthday party photographer

Spent last Saturday in Ohio for the first birthday of my cousin’s twins, Graham + Cooper. It was such a fun time. They are the cutest little guys. It was so funny to watch them each react in their own distinct way to their first piece of birthday cake. Graham dug right in while Cooper took about five minutes before he even knew what to do with it. :) Here are a few pictures from the day:

exploring

I grew up in the country. In the middle of the Barry State Game Area to be exact. Most of the time, I loved living there. Except for the thick mosquitoes in summer and how creepy a thunderstorm made the surrounding woods seem. When we were at my parents house for Mother’s Day, I decided to go for a walk and take pictures of some of the places my brothers and I used to play as kids. Zach tagged along and I told him how we used to drive our go-cart back the path and have adventures back in the woods. It was fun to reminisce.

The people who owned the home before my parents left a lot of trash in the woods – old chairs and junk. I was surprised to see some of it still back there. And these cement steps have lived among the trees between my parents’ and the neighbors’ property for many years. I think they used to be attached to our house before my parents did some renovating. Not sure. We used to play on them all the time with the neighbor girls. Snakes liked to live under and around them, too. Good times.

This was our climbing tree. It’s got a lot of broken and rotting branches now, but way back in the day it was big and strong and we climbed as high as we could get.

These rocks lie right in the middle of this great big open grassy area in the back yard. They’ve always been there. Not sure why. I’m sure they’re fun for my dad when he mows the lawn. And I don’t know why, but I’m really drawn to power lines. Long rows of them fascinate me. I think it’s the idea that at one time, there were large areas of this country that had no power and now these wires and poles run everywhere bringing electricity to everyone. It’s the little things that intrigue me, I guess. :) Here are the ones behind the house that run through the trees.

A fun little photo exploration. I’d love to see some of your favorite childhood places, too. Get out there and capture those locations that bring back special memories for you. Feel free to share by leaving a link in the comments or by email.

Happy Mothers Day!

Woke up to a special Mother’s Day gift from Zach.

A Lego camera! How clever is he? :)
